Character of the European Burmese
Burmese are often called “companion cats.” They are affectionate, smart, emotionally sensitive, and feel a person’s mood perfectly.
The breed is characterized by:
- high orientation to humans
- friendly and open character
- curiosity and intelligence
- playfulness even in adulthood
- good adaptation to life in a family
European Burmese usually get along well with children and other animals with respectful and calm introduction.
Appearance and Features
The Burmese has a graceful but strong body with well-developed muscles. Their coat has almost no undercoat, so it looks smooth, shiny, and is very pleasant to the touch. One of the features of the breed is the expressive look — warm, attentive, and very “alive.”
Colors of the European Burmese
The European Burmese is known not only for its character but also for the special beauty of its colors. Soft, warm, and very “alive” shades are characteristic of the breed, which unfold especially beautifully on the silky Burmese coat. The Burmese coat has almost no undercoat, so the colors look deep, even, and as if they glow from the inside.
Main colors of the European Burmese:
- Sable / brown: The classic and most recognizable Burmese color — a deep warm brown shade with rich amber eyes.
- Chocolate: A softer and lighter version of the brown color with a warm milky shade.
- Blue: A cool gray-blue color with a very noble and calm appearance.
- Lilac: A delicate light shade with a pinkish-silver undertone.
- Red: A warm sunny color with soft apricot shades.
- Cream: A light and delicate color of a pastel warm tone.
- Tortoiseshell colors: Exquisite tortoiseshell colors are also found in European Burmese — a combination of the primary color with soft cream or reddish inclusions. Each tortoiseshell Burmese has a unique pattern and an unrepeatable character of appearance.
How the color changes:
The Burmese coat color develops gradually and becomes deeper and more saturated with age. In kittens, the shade often looks lighter than in adult animals. Lighting, season, and ambient temperature can also influence the perception of the color. For us, every Burmese color is special in its own way, but the main charm of the breed always remains unchanged — its character, intelligence, and amazing connection with humans.
Life next to a Burmese
Burmese do not tolerate long loneliness well and truly open up next to people who are ready to include the cat in their daily life. This is a breed for those looking for not just a beautiful animal, but a real companion — gentle, smart, and emotionally close.
Why we love Burmese
For us, the European Burmese is a special combination of beauty, intelligence, and character. It is for the ability to create a deep connection with a person that we once fell in love with this breed — and have remained devoted to it for many years.
